Mrunal Thakur on Jersey’s box office failure: ‘Undoubtedly disappointing, one does tend to feel bad.’

Jersey, a remake of the 2019 National Award-winning Telugu film of the same name starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, fell far short of box office expectations. According to Bollywood Hungama, the film has only earned Rs 17.20 crore in India.

Jersey follows the life of a man who is willing to go to any length to fulfill his son’s dreams while also attempting to save his marriage from disintegration. The reason for Jersey’s poor performance was that it was released only a week after the record-breaking KGF Chapter 2, a film that is still eating into the shares of new releases.

Mrunal Thakur told the Times of India that the film’s underperformance is undoubtedly disappointing. However, she attributed Jersey’s failure to external factors and the fact that the original version is available for free on YouTube. She admitted that she is disappointed and stated that they will work harder on the next project. Mrunal Thakur stated that she has “no idea” what audiences want, especially in light of the success of South Indian films such as RRR, KGF: Chapter 2, and Pushpa: The Rise. “Perhaps people want to see larger-than-life content. However, an actor does not select films. “It’s very mysterious,” she explained.

This is Shahid’s second Telugu adaptation, following Kabir Singh, which was his biggest success to date. According to a statement he made to indianexpress.com, “When I did Jersey, I was more confident, and I am more confident now.” “I was apprehensive the last time I saw him (Kabir Singh)”

Shubhra Gupta, a film reviewer for The Indian Express, awarded Jersey a 2.5-star rating. “The film comes alive in the passages between Shahid and his real-life father, who portrays his never-say-die coach and mentor,” she noted in her review. Pankaj Kapoor gives a nice, laid-back performance.”
