The film received the National Film Award, and the Filmfare Critics Award, and was exhibited at the India International Film Festival.
Sonali remarked in an interview with Film Companion, “I’m desperate to go back to work. I’m having a great time with it. I’m no longer an unintentional actor. This is something I’ve decided to do. I no longer have an excuse if I don’t do it right this time. I had a good time doing Sarfarosh with Aamir. During Sarfarosh, I passed up a chance to intentionally learn from him.”
She further said, “We would not have had a second innings if OTT platforms had not emerged. That ‘chalta hai’ (casually stating it’s acceptable) mentality can’t exist forever, and I believe it’s the greatest thing to happen to our profession.” Sonali also discussed her battle with cancer. She said that ‘getting a scar and losing my hair’ taught her that ‘beauty is never flawless.’
Sonali is scheduled to make her OTT debut with the series The Broken News. She will portray Awaaz Bharati journalist Amina Qureshi. Sonali will be joined on the program by Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar.
