Karan Malhotra, director of Shamshera, on the film’s box office failure: ‘Couldn’t handle the hate and rage’

Shamshera, Ranbir Kapoor’s latest film, did not receive the critical and audience support that it had hoped for. Despite extensive marketing, the film, which marked Ranbir’s return to the big screen after four years, earned only Rs 31.75 crore in its first weekend. The film received mixed reviews, and now director Karan Malhotra has issued a statement saying that he “could not handle the hate and rage” that has been directed at him in recent days.

Karan posted a note on Instagram with the caption “My Dearest Shamshera, you are majestic the way you are.” I must express myself on this platform because this is where you will find all of the love, hate, celebration, and humiliation. I sincerely apologize for abandoning you for the past few days because I couldn’t handle the hatred and rage. My withdrawal was a weakness, and I make no excuses for it.”

“But now I’m here, standing beside you hand in hand, feeling proud and honored that you’re mine, Will face everything together, the good, the bad, and the ugly,” he continued.
