“Naatu Naatu” by RRR was named the winner of Best Original Song at the 95th Academy Awards (Oscars 2023). In order to win, the song had to compete with others including “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, “Take My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick, “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Panther Forever, and “This Is Life” from Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. Chandrabose, a lyricist, and Keeravani, a composer, both said yes to the Oscars in 2023.
Chandrabose wrote the words to the song. MM Keeravaani made the music, and Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj sang it. The Golden Globe for best song went to “Naatu Naatu.” Because of this, RRR became the first Indian film to win a Golden Globe.
RRR tells a story set in the 1920s that is based on the lives of freedom fighters Komaram Bheem and Alluri Sitarama Raju. Gulzar and AR Rahman’s “Jai Ho” became the first ever Hindi song to win an Oscar Award for Best Original Track and Best Original Score. It was in the 2008 British movie Slumdog Millionaire.
