In a recent episode of the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh Bachchan asked contestant Ayush Garg about online dating because he was intrigued about how couples meet and fall in love in the twenty-first century. In August, Ayush, who won 75 lakh, appeared on the show hosted by the renowned actor alongside his girlfriend Arushi Sharma. Ayush revealed on KBC 14 that he met his partner, not through friends, colleagues, or acquaintances, but an internet dating app. Ayush has discussed his life after KBC and explained how his experience on the game show has altered the perceptions of online dating among his peers.
Through their conversations on KBC 14, Amitabh Bachchan and Ayush underlined how online platforms have fundamentally altered the nature of dating. By sharing his personal experience, the IIT-Delhi and IIM-Ahmedabad alumnus who works as a strategy and operations manager for a software startup was able to shed light on why individuals use online dating platforms and what they do there. When asked about the reaction of his family and friends following his presence on KBC 14, Ayush stated that he had made online dating more appealing to the parents of his friends more thatching else.
“For us (the millennial generation), online dating is second nature because almost everyone uses these applications. For the majority of our parenparent’sration, though, dating is uncharted ground. I was pleased to share my experience with Amitabh Bachchan on KBC and, in a sense, normalize meeting possible partners using online dating applications. In fact, after the airing of the show, many of my contemporaries and friends were questioned by their parents about their use of dating apps. Their parents want them to find mates in new ways and are encouraging them to use these applications if they are not already. This was a great outcome that made it worthwhile for me to discuss my relationship on television,” Ayush remarked.
While Ayush stated that he did not anticipate what transpired, he felt quite at ease with it. Ayush stated that his KBC 14 debut has yielded nothing but positive results, and he does not fear being overburdened by the responsibilities of his newfound popularity. When asked how he was able to explain his friendship with Amitabh Bachchan on national television, Ayush responded that he was thankful for the exposure. “I’m delighted I got to share my thoughts on a topic that rarely gets brought up on KBC.” Since the year 2020, Ayush and Arushi have been a couple. He stated that their parents and family approve of their relationship, and because they were receptive to the notion of their meeting on a dating app, he felt confident telling their story on KBC. Ayush’s family was out of India for his sister’s graduation when he was in Mumbai filming for KBC.
So, how did he land on a show that he had “grown up watching” and that his mother had encouraged him to apply to for years, and that too on his first try? Ayush stated that he applied to the game show without expecting to win. Not only was he chosen, but he also received a substantial sum that he intends to invest in his undetermined start-up. The 28-year-prize old’s money victory was the result of days of extremely specialized training. He examined curated lists of topics, such as Indian mythology, and watched prior KBC episodes to familiarise himself with the types of questions he anticipated seeing on the quiz show. In addition, he spent much time brushing up on current events.
Ayush reported that his phone has been buzzing since his KBC episodes aired; he appeared as a contestant on episode 7 on August 14 and as a rollover contestant on episode 8 on August 15. Friends, family, acquaintances, and people he hasn’t seen in years congratulated him. Despite Amitabh Bachchan’s pitch, no one has yet offered to sponsor Ayush’s next business venture. The sensation of being recognized in public was almost instantaneous.
“Right after the performance was taped, an audience member asked for a photo. It would have been embarrassing if I had been requested to sign an autograph, but several strangers and acquaintances approached me for photographs. Ayush jokes that in the long run, things will calm down considerably as he will meet people who have not seen his KBC episode and therefore have no idea he is the “KBC guy who got his girlfriend as a companion,” something that Amitabh Bachchan pointed out had not yet occurred on the show’s first season, which aired in 2000.
