Akshay Kumar will make his Marathi debut with Mahesh Manjrekar’s upcoming Shivaji-themed film. In the upcoming film titled Vedat Marathe Veer Daudale Saat, the actor will portray Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Produced by Vaseem Qureshi, the film tells the story of seven valiant warriors whose sole mission was to make Shivaji Maharaj’s dream of Swarajya a reality, thereby writing one of the most illustrious periods in the annals of Indian history.
On Tuesday, a mahurat shot ceremony for the film was held in Mumbai, with Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and MNS chief Raj Thackeray present. The announcement follows the release of Ram Setu, Akshay’s fifth film of the year. In the film, he plays an archaeologist on a mission to preserve an old structure.
Speaking at the event about his Marathi debut, Akshay stated, “This role is a dream come true for me. I believe that portraying Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the big screen is a tremendous obligation. I was surprised when Raj sir asked me to play this character. This is a dream-come-true role for me, and I feel so fortunate to be playing it. In addition, I will be working with Mahesh Manjrekar for the first time, which will be an adventure.”
As it required extensive research, Mahesh Manjrekar referred to the film as his dream project, on which he has been working for the past seven years. “It is the largest and grandest Marathi film ever made, and with its nationwide release, I want people to learn about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the most powerful Hindu king. He said, “I believe he is the best candidate for the position” when asked about having Akshay Kumar portray Shivaji Maharaj. “I am extremely happy to have Akshay Kumar on board to portray Shivaji Maharaj.”
Additionally, Maharashtra’s chief minister Eknath Shinde stated: “This film will be a smashing success; my best wishes are with them. Babasaheb Thackeray used to encourage Marathi movies, and now Raj Thackeray is doing the same.”
