Amitabh Bachchan has joined Rajinikanth’s star-studded next, Thalaivar 170. Lyca Productions, his production company, confirmed his signing on Tuesday.
Amitabh and Rajini recently collaborated for the family drama Hum (1991). Thailaivar means they’d be working together for the first time in 32 years. While they did not collaborate, Amitabh has always been a fan of Rajini’s work. He even attended a press presentation for Robot, which also starred Amitabh’s daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai.
The untitled picture, which will be produced by Lyca Productions, was revealed in March. TJ Gnanavel of Jai Bhim fame will direct it. “I’m doing my 170th film with director Gnanavel and Lyca, which will be a huge entertainer with a social message,” the 72-year-old actor said at the Chennai airport before departing for Thiruvananthapuram.
“I’m going to make my 170th film… “We haven’t decided on a title yet,” Rajinikanth stated.
Anirudh Ravichander has been hired to compose music for the Tamil film, which will be produced by Subaskaran.
Lyca Productions revealed on Tuesday on microblogging site X that actors Fahadh Faasil and Rana Daggubati will star alongside Rajinikanth in the film. Ritika Singh, Manju Warrier, and Dushara Vijayan are featured in the cast.
Rajinikanth was most recently seen in Nelson’s Jailer. The picture was a box office triumph when it was released in August. According to the seasoned performer, the film was a “victory beyond expectations.”
Rajinikanth’s next projects also include a yet-untitled collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj and Aishwarya Rajinikanth’s Lal Salaam.
Amitabh Bachchan’s most recent films include Brahmastra, Goodbye, and Uunchai. Ganapath and Kalki 2898 AD will be his future releases.
