On September 30, Angelina Jolie and her daughter Zahara, 16, attended Variety’s Power of Women gala in Beverly Hills, where they met poet Amanda Gorman. In a video uploaded on Twitter by the outlet’s executive editor Ramin Setoodeh on Thursday, the trio was seen exchanging pleasantries before posing for a photo together.
The 46-year-old Academy Award winner donned a brown floor-length dress with sleeves and a modest turtleneck, while her daughter chose a white blouse and matching brown trousers. Amanda, 23, shined in a vibrant pink gown after moving the nation with a rendition of her poetry “The Hill We Climb” at President Joe Biden’s inauguration.
On the red (or white) carpet, the trio also posed together. Angelina has been tasked with introducing the poet at the event, which honors female trailblazers, poets, and artists outside of their regular fields for their philanthropic work. Katy Perry, Rita Moreno, Lorde, and Channing Dungey, CEO of Warner Bros. Television Studios, are among the awardees.
Angelina Jolie will not be the only one hosting the event. Hunter Schafer, Ava DuVernay, Gayle King, Gloria Calderón Kellett, and Ava DuVernay will also speak. Justina Machado, Tia Mowry, Jenna Dewan, Kelly Hu, Chelsea Peretti, and Alyssa Milano are among the celebrity guests.
Angelina and Zahara’s mother-daughter outing is set against the backdrop of a gala honoring trailblazing women. Her ex-husband Brad Pitt and she have a daughter together. Maddox, 20, Pax, 17, Shiloh, 15, Vivienne, 13, and Knox, 13, are their children. After more than a decade together, Angelina filed for divorce from Brad Pitt in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple is going through a divorce and a protracted custody battle over their six children.
