In Bengaluru, the Bollywood actor Siddhanth Kapoor was seized during a police raid at a rave party. Several other celebrities have been accused of involvement in similar drug scandals throughout the years.
Siddhanth Kapoor, son of Shakti Kapoor and brother of Shraddha Kapoor, was seized in Bengaluru during a police raid on a hotel rave party. This is not, however, the first time a Bollywood star has been investigated for suspected drug use. Several celebrities have been questioned in similar circumstances. Many of the notorious drug cases in Bollywood that involved celebrities concluded in their favour.
- Sushant Singh Rajput
After Sushant Singh Rajput’s untimely death in June 2020, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) questioned numerous Bollywood celebrities, including his lover Rhea Chakraborty, on allegations of drug misuse and procurement. Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Rakul Preet Singh, and Shraddha Kapoor were questioned by the NCB as part of the investigation, however, they were not prosecuted. Arjun Rampal and his girlfriend Gabriella Gabriella Demetriades were also called, but they were allowed to go.
In the meanwhile, on September 8, 2020, Rhea was detained by the NCB on suspicion that she and her brother had obtained marijuana for Sushant, but she was not discovered to have ingested or had a controlled drug. After spending over a month in pre-trial detention, she was freed on bond on October 7. In this respect, she has not yet received a clean bill of health.
- Aryan Khan
Another huge drug scandal that shook Bollywood was the arrest of Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan. In October of last year, the NCB nabbed the 24-year-old during a raid on a cruise outside of Mumbai. He was detained for over a month before being released on bond. Last month, he was eventually cleared, since the NCB charge sheet did not include him as a suspect. Numerous celebrities came out in favour of Aryan and said he was being persecuted for being the son of a famous actress.
- Prateik Babbar
In 2020, the actor, son of actor-politician Raj Babbar and the late star Smita Patil, revealed his struggle with addiction. His first encounter with drugs occurred when he was 13 years old, and he suffered from substance misuse until he entered treatment.
- Sanjay Dutt
In 1982, Sanjay Dutt was arrested for drug possession, and he has been candid about his struggles with substance misuse. He stated that he was hooked for many years and was forced to seek treatment in America. In many interviews, he disclosed that he was given a list of pills at the centre to indicate which ones he had consumed and that he checked all of them.
- Fardeen Khan
The actor, who will shortly return to Bollywood after a 12-year absence, was supposedly detained in Mumbai in 2001 for trying to purchase cocaine. In 2012, the charges were dismissed and he was given immunity in the case after completing a de-addiction programme at KEM Hospital, under the proviso that the immunity would be revoked if he was again caught in possession of narcotics.
