Karan Johar asserts that Bollywood lacks the courage to be creative. We began to remake every Telugu and Tamil film
Filmmaker Karan Johar has recently questioned Bollywood’s incapacity to create fresh content, as well as his participation in the industry. Regarding this subject, the filmmaker stated that the Hindi cinema business lacks the courage and conviction to explore new things. He also added that the film industry has started replicating every blockbuster film in Tamil and Telugu. KARAN SAYS BOLLYWOOD IS SPINELESS
Karan Johar is renowned for his hit films, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. In a new interview, the host of Koffee With Karan discussed what the Hindi film business has been doing incorrectly in recent years in comparison to other regional theatres.
Karan stated, during a round table discussion held by Galatta Plus, “I believe that the core issue is that we, including myself, come from a mainstream industry in Hindi cinema that lacks a quality that every other film on this panel possesses. That is assurance. We typically go with the flow. In the 1970s, we had such an original voice in Salim-Javed. The concept of this angsty, angry hero was borrowed from other films when we built a particular character. Then, in the 1980s, suddenly something occurred, and a plethora of remakes appeared. That was the first sign of doubt. We began recreating every big Tamil and Telugu film.”
Providing examples of Bollywood’s most popular films over the years, he continued, “In the 1990s, a single love story swept the nation: Hum Aapke Hain Koun. Everyone, including me, decided to ride on the bandwagon of love, resulting in the creation of Shah Rukh Khan. In contrast, we abandoned all of our roots in the 1970s. Then, once Lagaan was nominated for an Oscar in 2001, everyone began making similar pictures. In 2010, Dabangg performed well, and we began producing commercial films again. That is the issue. We truly lack backbone and conviction, and I say this more for myself than anyone else. This is what we require from every other industry.”
