On Friday, the film Code Name Tiranga, starring Parineeti Chopra and singer-actor Harrdy Sandhu, opened poorly in theatres. The espionage drama debuted at just under 15 lakh rupees. Doctor G, starring Ayushmann Khurrana, had an opening weekend gross of approximately 3.25 crore.
Ribhu Dasgupta wrote and directed Code Name Tiranga. Sharad Kelkar, Rajit Kapur, Shefali Shah, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Shishir Sharma, and Sabyasachi Chakraborty also appear in the film. It competed with Doctor G, a film in which Shefali Shah plays a prominent role as a doctor.
Even with inexpensive ticket prices at 100 on day one, the film reportedly only earned between 10 and 15 lakh nett, as reported by Boxofficeindia.com. The report states, “The theory that cheaper tickets lead to higher box office receipts is slowly dying with films like Goodbye and Code Name Tiranga.” It worked on cinema day for films such as Chup and Dhoka, but this was a one-time occurrence.”
In Code Name Tiranga, Parineeti portrays an undercover RAW agent named Durga. This is her second collaboration with The Girl On The Train director Ribhu Dasgupta. She described the film as the start of a new phase in her film career.
In an interview with PTI, she stated, “This is a new phase in my life, Parineeti 2.0. This film (Code Name: Tiranga) represents a portion of my maturation. If the previous three films had not been successful, if they had been rejected, I would have understood that they don’t want to see me do this, but they do.” Parineeti was last seen as badminton champion Saina Nehwal in the movie named Saina.
The majority of Code Name Tiranga was filmed in Turkey. After it runs in theatres, it will be available on Netflix.
