India won the second Test against Australia in three days, but it’s not just the team’s achievements that have been discussed since the match. After being dismissed for another low score (1 run), Karnataka batsman KL Rahul has faced a barrage of criticism, with some experts and former cricketers urging him to be dropped. However, skipper Rohit Sharma is not giving up on the batter.
During the press conference, Rohit pledged his support to ‘talented players’ like KL Rahul, implying that those with such potential will be given a long rope by the team management.
As team managers, we always consider the potential of any individual, not just KL. I’ve been asked about a number of players in the past. If a player has promise, he will be given a chance. It’s not just KL. Look at the hundreds he got batting on that damp pitch, especially at Lord’s. Centurion was yet another victory. Both arrived in India and won both games. That is his potential,” Rohit said at a press conference on Sunday.
In terms of the team management’s communication with Rahul, Rohit stated that the message to the batter was to do what he does best. The India captain also emphasised Rahul’s knocks in England and South Africa, emphasising the batter’s talent.
Of course, there have been numerous conversations recently. But, from our perspective, it was clear that we want him to go out there and play his game, doing what he does best, as we have seen him do over the years.
As previously stated, these teams are made up of various individuals, each with their own method of scoring runs. Find your own ways to accomplish this. We will not investigate what one person is doing, but rather what the entire team is doing. This is a big series for us, and that’s my thought on KL,” Rohit concluded.
