Karan Johar recently admitted to being clueless about finances and shared an incident with Twinkle Khanna on her talk show Tweak India, describing how he used to sign cheques with ‘lots of love,’ which irritated his father, Yash Johar. Karan Johar took over the company and became the owner of Dharma Productions after Yash Johar died. Karan stated during the conversation with Twinkle that before this, he was completely clueless about money and finances. He discussed an incident in which he signed autographs for many people and revealed, “I had come from my first award show and I had signed quite a few autographs, rather enjoyed doing it.” Those were the days before selfies. When I returned to the office, he asked me to sign a few checks. On the checks, I had written ‘lots of Love.’ So my father stormed in and declared, ‘They don’t want your love, they want your money.’ He went on to say that he was so used to signing autographs that he ended up signing the cheques with love as well.
He described how, following his father’s death, he sat in his office for the first time and met his Chartered Accountant. During the conversation, Twinkle accused Karan of still being bad with money, to which the filmmaker responded that he was aware and had been ‘lectured’ about it by Twinkle’s husband, Akshay Kumar. “Ask your husband, and he will tell you,” he said. He gave me a lecture three days ago.”
Karan previously stated that he does not know his bank balance or Dharma Productions’ finances. Apoorva Mehta, his childhood friend, and business partner handles that side of the business. Rocky Rani Ki Prem Kahani, starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, is currently in the works.
