Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi resorted to Twitter today to express his condolences for the death of famous actor Dilip Kumar, who died on Wednesday after being hospitalized on June 30 for respiratory problems.
“Dilip Kumar Ji will be remembered as a cinematic legend,” PM Narendra Modi said, describing the legendary actor’s untimely death as a loss to the cultural world. He was endowed with unrivaled brilliance, which attracted audiences of all eras. His death leaves a void in our cultural landscape. Heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and countless fans. RIP.”
Meanwhile, India’s Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, tweeted that he met the icon and said, “Shri Dilip Kumar Ji was an excellent actor, a real thespian who was widely appreciated by everyone for his extraordinary contribution to the Indian film industry.” Millions of moviegoers were moved by his performances in films like Ganga Jamuna. I’m heartbroken about his death.”
“When I traveled to Mumbai to award Dilip Kumar Ji with the Padma Vibhushan, I met him in person. Interacting with the renowned actor was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. His passing is a huge loss for an Indian film. He went on to say, “My deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and fans.”
Dilip Kumar’s close friend verified the news on Twitter earlier today, writing, “With a sad heart and profound loss, I announce the passing away of our dear Dilip Saab, a few minutes ago,” from the renowned actor’s official handle. We come from God and return to Him. Farooqui, Faisal.”
