Priyanka Chopra at UN General Assembly

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra Jonas said, “global solidarity” is needed to create a secure and healthy society. In her opening remarks at a UN General Assembly session on Monday, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador said leaders must protect the “basis of a just world we fought for.”

We are gathered here today at a time when international cooperation is more crucial than ever as nations continue to suffer from the terrible effects of COVID-19 and as the climate issue affects more and more people throughout the world lives, and as conflicts rage; as poverty, displacement, hunger, and inequities threaten the fundamental foundation of a just world for which we have battled for so long,” Priyanka said in her presentation.

Even though “everything is not well” in the world, the UN Sustainable Development Goals have a strategy to fix it. The SDGs are a global to-do list. In 2015, people around the world made these goals. We can change the world together. People deserve it. Earth owes us. Everyone deserves a just, safe, healthy planet.

Priyanka stressed the plan’s urgency, saying the earth had little time to waste to remain habitable for all. Time is limited. We’re halfway to achieving these targets by 2030. We don’t have time, says the Secretary-General. In this room are 2015 signatories to the goals. Leaders who can implement the plan with us. Today is action oriented. It’s about ambition and what we must do collectively to achieve the SDGs, she said.

Malala Yousafzai and Amanda Gorman were present at the event. The actor shared photos with the two on Instagram and praised Gorman’s statement.
