The Russo Brothers have finally announced a sequel to their latest film, The Gray Man, starring Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, and Dhanush. They confirmed that Ryan will reprise his role as CIA mercenary Court Gentry aka Sierra Six in the franchise’s second installment. At a press event in Mumbai last week, Joe Russo promised that Dhanush would be a part of the franchise in the future.
The sequel will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, with the script written by The Gray Man co-writer Stephen McFeely. Netflix issued a press release confirming that the team is also working on a spin-off film that will explore various aspects of The Gray Man universe.
“The Gray Man’s crowd reaction is spectacular.” We’re amazed by the film’s global popularity. “With so many wonderful characters in the film, we always planned for the Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe,” stated the Russo Brothers in a joint statement.
The Russos and AGBO’s Mike Larocca will produce the sequel for Roth Kirschenbaum Films, along with Joe Roth and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum. The Gray Man is based on Mark Greaney’s 2009 novel of the same name, which was released on Netflix on July 22. Sierra Six, a CIA mercenary spy, accidentally uncovers dark agency secrets and becomes a primary target of his former colleague Lloyd Hansen and other international assassins in the film. Ana de Armas, Rege Jean Page, and Jessica Henwick also appear.
During a press event in Mumbai last week, Joe Russo said of Dhanush’s return to the franchise, “It’s based on a book series, so there is the opportunity to expand We enjoy continuing with the setting and characters. However, we need the audience to tell us whether or not they want to see more of the story. If we continue with the story, I can assure you that Dhanush’s character will be a part of it in the future.”
The spin-off film will be written by acclaimed screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, according to Netflix. Unknown plot details.
