The film is a collaboration of Rajshri Productions, Mahaveer Jain Films, and Boundless Media. It is Sooraj Barjatya’s first film in seven years, after Prem Ratan Dhan Payo in 2015. It earned favorable reviews from critics.
Sooraj, who is known for family dramas such as Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, and Vivah, stated that making Uunchai was liberating for him. In an interview with PTI, he stated, “In this film, I have shed all my previous trappings.” There was once a belief that if you named a character Prem, the film would succeed. But I have let that go. Everything was slipping away during the pandemic, so there was no point in clinging to anything. For me, it was liberating.”
