Actress Bhumi Pednekar once discussed how her life changed after being kicked out of a film school at the age of 18. She was a student at Subhash Ghai’s Whistling Woods Film Institute in Mumbai. When asked how her life changed as a result of the incident, she said it made her work harder than before.
Bhumi made her Bollywood debut in 2015 with Dum Laga Ke Haisha, winning the Filmfare Award for a best female debut. She spent six years as an assistant casting director at Yash Raj Films before making her acting debut. Bhumi turned a year older on Monday.
Bhumi revealed in 2019 that her mother took out an education loan for her acting classes, which her father was initially unaware of. While Bhumi herself paid off the loan, she revealed that she began working within a year and a half of being kicked out of film school.
XI and XII’s classes are not taught in Bombay, she said, according to Mint. They’re just sitting there eating vada pav. I was kicked out for failing to show up. I was just having a good time. I’m glad I was thrown out because I was shaken that day. I was like, my father is a jerk, my mother trusted me, and I f****d up. That’s when I learned that Yash Raj Films (YRF) is looking for an assistant casting director. I realized I wanted to work in YRF after starting there. I put in a lot of effort, but I had no idea what I was doing. I was 18!”
Bhumi will next be seen with Akshay Kumar in Raksha Bandhan, which will be released on August 11. She also has The Lady Killer, in which she co-stars with Arjun Kapoor for the first time. It will be directed by Ajay Bahl and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, and Shailesh R Singh, who will also serve as executive producers. Bhumi is also a member of Govinda Mera Naam, Bheed, and Bhakshak.
