Mani Ratnam, a filmmaker, has stated that he meets Shah Rukh Khan frequently, but working with him again would require the right script. They previously collaborated on Dil Se. Along with Shah Rukh, it starred Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta.
Mani Ratnam, along with Ram Gopal Varma and Shekhar Kapur, directed and co-produced the 1998 film, which was also directed by Mani Ratnam. The film, which is set against the backdrop of insurgency in Assam, won multiple awards, including two National Film Awards and six Filmfare Awards. It also garnered praise at international film festivals and performed well at the box office.
Mani Ratnam told Pinkvilla when asked about the possibility of a reunion with Shah Rukh, “You should ask Shah Rukh.” When I have a script prepared for him, I can approach him. Thus, everything is a function of a script. Simply put, we met at a social event. As if I were telling you that it is driven by a script idea. Once you’ve determined which Shah Rukh will be the best fit, I’ll go ask him.”
Ponniyin Selvan: I, starring Aishwarya Rai and based on the Tamil novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy, is Mani Ratnam’s upcoming film, which is currently in post-production. During the 1950s, the novel with the same name was adapted into a television series. Jayam Ravi, Vikram, Karthi, Trisha Krishnan, and Sobhita Dhulipala also appear in the film. On September 30, the AR Rahman musical will be released in theatres in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
Ponniyin Selvan: I mark the second collaboration between Aishwarya and Tamil actor Vikram. In their 2010 critically acclaimed film Raavan, which also starred Abhishek Bachchan, they collaborated. Aishwarya made her acting debut in 1997 with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar and subsequently appeared in Guru (2007) and Raavan.
